When you pack for a holiday what do you pack up first? Most likely it’s your most precious possessions right? It’s different for everyone: travel documentation, travel budget, jewellery, gadgets, clothing, etc. Whatever it is, it reveals something about what’s important to you; it reveals your “Ark” or your first priority.

In Numbers 4 we learn that Aaron and his sons would be the ones who prepared the holy things of the Tabernacle to be moved and carried by the Kohathite clan of the Levites, beginning with the most important piece, the Ark of the Covenant from the Most Holy Place (vv. 5-6). The other pieces followed from the Holy Place to the Courtyard.

Ideally God would be your “Ark” (your first priority) always, not just when you move from one situation to another. If we put God first, the rest will follow. As Jesus said, towards the end of his teaching on not worrying: “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33 NLT). This is countercultural, but know that Jesus has promised the burden will be light; He will carry most of the weight (Matthew 11:28-30).

What’s your “Ark” (your first priority)? Does it need to be changed?
