God Himself is the ultimate Giver. As a follower of Jesus you also become known as a giver. Not only financially, but you can also become generous in other areas like time, resources and skills.

Numbers 7 records the offerings the 12 tribal leaders gave towards the dedication of the Tabernacle altar of burnt offering. It was a 12 day party! Interestingly all 12 leaders gave the exact same offerings. When Moses wrote this part of Numbers he could have just said that every leader gave identical offerings. But he doesn’t. As ultimate author, God felt it necessary to take space in the Scriptures to record in detail what each leader gave. Why?

Your Giving Matters to God

When you give, no one may notice but God does. He sees what you give and how you give it.

This is actually the longest chapter in Numbers and in all of Moses’ writings. Much of it is a repetition of what the leaders gave. God sees and notes what you give.

The offerings the leaders gave were very generous. We can assume that how they gave pleased God. God takes note when you give wholeheartedly (Mark 12:41-44; 2 Corinthians 9:7).

Does this challenge what and how you give to God and others? In what ways?
