Jeremiah tells us that God’s plan for us are “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). Sometimes we may be tempted to jump ahead of God when things seem slow or nothing seems to be happening.

In Numbers 9:17-23 we learn that the Israelites depended on the leading of God (via the pillar of cloud) during their wilderness time. It was simple: whenever the cloud lifted it was time to move, whenever the cloud settled that would be the camp site.

The Israelites knew the end goal, the Promised Land, but how they got there required them waiting for and following God’s lead.

Why didn’t God just give Israel (or you) a full map instead of just the next part of His plan? He doesn’t reveal the plan all at once: He wants you to learn to trust Him. You can be sure that God has a plan. He reveals just enough for the next step (Psalm 119:105).

As you wait for God’s lead ask Him for wisdom and counsel from His Word (James 1:5; Psalm 73:24; 37:7). Sometimes you need to find out some facts from others (Proverbs 3:5-6). There may be preparation to do where you are now before going to the next step.
